Sweet
Decisions
A beautiful cake, sitting like a monument
near other refreshments makes, the strawberries look
a little redder and those shrimp a little more succulent.
Even though most couples on a tight budget could cut
out this piece of wedding tradition, most couples
agree to fork out a little extra for the sweet masterpiece.
The hard part is deciding what kind of cake will headline
the reception. Bakers have perfected the fine art
of wedding cake design. They have gotten rid of those
cumbersome columns and have expanded the selection
of colors and flavors. Todays best cake designs
are those that best reflect the personalities of the
new bride and groom. When deciding on a baker to create
a cake that represents your personalities, dont
forget to ask:
What flavors are offered? Is the
baker willing to mix and match cake flavors, fillings,
and icings? Can the baker offer samples?
How much cake will it take to feed everyone
on the guest list? Will there be leftovers?
Does the baker preserve leftovers for the bride and
groom and is there an additional charge for freezing?
Is there a delivery charge? Does
the delivery fee include both setup and mileage? Will
the baker have the wedding cake delivered? Will the
cake be delivered on the day of the event?
Does the baker have a Plan B in
case the cake is damaged during delivery?
Does the baker offer compensation (reimbursement)
for a damaged cake?
How much is the cake-cutting fee?
What are the best options for the budget?
These questions, and others, should be outlined in
the terms of your contract. Read it carefully. If
there are any unanswered question, ask that the addition
information be put in writing.
